red and white ladder, binding!

Red and White Ladder
top completed 2024
quilt completed 2025
81 by 68 inches
quilted by Sue Divarco

I realize I don't get completed quilts photographed very often and it often is years after I finish them that I do so.
I have decided to start posting them at the binding stage as that is something I can photograph more easily and can post them when I am actually at the completion stage.
Here is my Red and White Ladder quilt.
Directions on how to make it are HERE.

I have asked the kids to help me photograph the backlog of dozens of quilts!

Fragments

(Floating Fragments pattern by Jamie Siel)

Quilt completed 2024
78.5 by 65 inches
Quilted by Sue DiVarco

White is Kona Snow
Red scraps

Jamie Siel of Sew Brainy Designs has a delightful pillow pattern series she does for Riley Blake. Her October 2023 "Floating Fragments" pillow begged to be scaled up to quilt size.
Her description of it is HERE.
The pattern tutorial is HERE.
My adaptation is described HERE.

My final finish for 2024.

red and white sreak of lightning, quilt completed

Red and White Streak of Lightning
about 92 by 74 inches
2023
Details on construction here.
My directions for a traditional design--use at your your pleasure.
Quilted by Sue Divarco. I like how the red thread of the quilting looks like baubles in the white parts (Kona Snow).
My final finish for 2023. I finished the top a year ago this week.

About 18 months ago I had one red and white quilt. I had a desire to have a stack of red and white quilts. Now I have 4 completed--a stack!
And two more being quilted, one more top in progress, and about 6 more in my head.
And I have more red fabric than when I started.

bernina x 64, quilt completed

Bernina x 64
about 70 inches square
Top completed 2022
Quilt completed 2023
Quilted by Sue Divarco

I explain the piecing of the quilt at HERE. I was inspired by Warhol's Marilyn x 100 that hangs in the Cleveland Museum of Art.
I used a slightly altered Fat Quarters Shop's Sewcialities block 33 by Lori Holt.
Made with solid fabrics, mainly Kona and Moda. Border is Kona Glacier.
It was a fun block to sew. The 64 was for me being 64 when I pieced it.

A new building has gone up a block to the west and I am having trouble picking the right time/cloud cover for quilt photography. And also trouble finding willing family members for quilt photography. I have quite the backlog of finished quilts to post!

summer quilt, quilt completed

Summer Quilt

2023
94 1/2 by 81 inches
Quilted by Sue Divarco

378 blocks.
Adapted from the delightful pattern I Spy Low Volume of Allison Jensen of Woodberry Way
Here is her blog post about it.
Here is a link to her printable pattern
Here are my notes on changes I made in construction.

It is a calming, fresh quilt. Feels like summer. It is more beautiful in person than it photographs.
The fabrics are mine plus from an exchange with my small group. We laughed and said many of our low volume fabrics were not using their inside voices.
Some of my mom's scraps made it in here too from her 1960s sewing.

Use my modifications of Allison's great pattern at your pleasure.

pink framed square, quilt completed

Pink Framed Square
88 by 84 inches
completed 2023

It is a wedding gift to our daughter and son-in-law.

You can read my process with cutting and sewing instructions here:
https://kleinmeisjequilts.blogspot.com/2022/12/framed-square-top-completed.html
I like how on point quilts make their own border.

Pink is Kona Peony
Back is Earth Day Fly Away by August Wren for Dear Stella
Quilted with a wool batt by Sue Divarco

The quilt is inspired by a vintage one Bonnie Hunter had on her Instagram last summer. I drafted it and worked on it thinking it might make a dent in my 1 1/2 inch solid squares. It used them up!  So I paused this quilt and made the sewing machine quilt to generate more solid squares.

It is difficult to photograph this quilt. The closer up pictures are nearer to true color.

My design drafted from a vintage quilt.
Use at your pleasure.

Alphabet with checkerboard
quilt completed 2022
About 67 inches square

Setting is mine.
Letters adapted from Lisa Bogean's pattern for Primitive Gatherings.
Construction details are posted here.

Some, but not all, of the letters have fabric where the image references the letter:
Kittens, Eggs, Roosters, Dogs, Teapots and Teacups, Scissors, Horses. Frogs, Musical notes,
Used up some bits of indigo picked up on a trip to Japan in 1989.
This is my 6th alphabet quilt.

Medallion setting is mine. Use at your pleasure.

My final finish for 2022. It has been a good year.

red and white stars with checkerboard, quilt completed

Red and white stars with checkerboard
2022
94 by 74 inches

Quilted by Sue Divarco with a wool batt

You can read my construction post here.

Made with fabrics from my shelves, from my friends' shelves, and from a bit of shopping. There are a few pieces from my mother's sewing over 60 years ago.

Sue did an exquisite job quilting this. She said she pushed to the head of her list to make sure I had it for Christmas.

I think more red and white quilts need to be made in this house.
That white with village print is from my mother's sewing 60 years ago

alphabet, (Missouri Star Easy Alphabet) quilt completed

Alphabet
2022
79 1/2 by 58 inches

Adapted from the Missouri Star Easy Alphabet pattern.
I changed the V.
They use squares for the backgrounds. I instead used larger pieces of fabric. I used Doug Leko's mini simple folded corners tool and Bonnie Hunter's Essential Triangle tool to make these construction adaptations.

The background is Kona Cyan. Love this color.
The scrap squares were from my solid 2 1/2 inch squares bin. Having that bin ready to go made for a quick quilt.

The back is a delightful qwerty typewriter keys batik in a coppery brown.
Quilted by Sue Divarco

This is my fifth alphabet quilt. I have the sixth being quilted and have another two in planning stages.

Penny Dog in the picture!
