fringed four-patch, top completed

Fringed Four-Patch
74 by 63 inches
Top completed 2026

I have been loving working with 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch cut scraps lately--I call them coins.
They have been featurued in several quilts, most recently as sashing in the orange tulips.

And, Summer quilts! I think I've made 5 low-volume quilts over the last year. all based on 5 inch cut squares.
The green and blue scraps are Stof fabrics which have been featured in the Orange Tulips, Summer Stars, Summer Flicker, and Summer Sticks, and in an upcoming Summer Geese and maybe Summer Overlapped Stars.

I've had this stack of soft greens and blues Stof for several years I got from a close-out sale. They are wonderful to work with. What took me so long?

The Four-Patch
Cut 4 pieces 5 inches
Sew together
Resulting piece will measure 9 1/2 inches unfinished, 9 inches finished
Press as desired
For this quilt cut 120 5 inch squares and made 30 four-patches

Fringe sashing using coins cut 2 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches
Cut 4 low volume pieces and 5 of the contrast
Sew together alternating, pressing towards the contrast
Will measure 2 1/2 by 9 1/2 unfinished, 2 by 9 finished
For this quilt I made 71 sashings, so I needed 355 dark and 285 low volume coinx

Corner stones--need 42
Cut 2 1/2 inches of low volumes

As always, my numbers may be a bit off.

Assembly
Sew sashing between blocks making 6 rows of 5 blocks
Press sashings towards blocks
Sew corner stones between and at end of sashings, making 7 sashing rows
Press sashings towards cornerstones
Assemble into quilt top
Press sashing rows towards block rows
Everything nests. (the seams of the 4-patches float in the center of a coin in the sashing, so nothing to nest there.)
Border is made from 3 1/2 inch cut strips of low volumes. I cut them in lengths tha measured to nest into the fringes.
Press towards the border.

My design, use at your pleasure.
