They happen. Sometimes you can talk yourself into them being charming. My friend Pat and I referred to our ugly quilts as "sister-in-law quilts" (sorry Katie!*), a quilt you can give to someone out of obligation without any pain of separation.
Just get them out of the house and let them be someone else's joy or problem.

I recently send a "ugly" quilt top to the thrift shop when I was in a down-sizing frenzy. I have photos of it. Now I wish I had it back. lol
I have an ugly quilt....but for some damned reason, my hubby loves it! I keep turning it over so the back will show (I like the pieced backing I did), but he keeps turning it to the front! Sheesh! The quilts I love, he thinks are just ok!.....Men!

I just had to comment on this. I have an ugly quilt. It was a cute pattern, and I thought it would be a great way to get the old fabrics out of my stash. Now....it's an ugly quilt-to-be. I called my mom in tears and asked how I could possibly finish piecing it??? Her reply was to make it into multiple smaller quilts and donate them to an animal shelter or vet! The cats and dogs can't tell it's ugly, and it gets well loved. Yay!
