shoo fly, top completed

82.5 by 95 inches
block finishes 7 1/2 by 9 1/2 inches

The background is cut four pieces 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches, two pieces 2 by 3 1/2 inches, and 2 pieces 2 by 4 1/2 inches.
The shoo fly is cut from solids, one square 2 inches, and four squares 2 1/2 inches.
The larger squares are sewn onto the larger rectangles in the sew-and-flip method.
Block is sewn in three columns. All pressing is away from the triangles.

In sewing blocks together, I only matched the corners, not the internal block seams.

My design--use at your pleasure!

I love the solid pinwheels and the print background. Did you have a "rule" for the color pairings? It all looks harmonious. Thanks for the pattern.

This is a marvelous design, Lynne! When I saw your work in progress, it brought to mind a basket of my grandmother's scraps percolating in my sewing hole. I'm tasked to make 8 quilts out of this basket. Since I'm still working on your solids and scraps 64 patch blocks, this design is definitely going on my to do list for later this year. Thanks for the measurements!

Congratulations Lynn! This is gorgeous. I love the traditional Shoo-fly but this one has something special and I want a quilt like that too. Thank you so much for the instructions. I'm sure plenty of people will remake your quilt because it is gorgeous! Enjoy! ;^)
