my annual halloween rant

We live in a destination neighborhood for the trick-or-treaters.
They start coming in droves, in carpools. I can never understand the people who bring sleeping babies in strollers--with no older siblings in sight to explain why they are out. Then, there are those don't want to climb the steps up our porch and want me to come down to give them candy. Go home; stop by the Jewel and buy your own bag of candy. Or, at least climb my steps. And, make the effort to say "Trick or Treat!"

I think I have turned into that crabby old lady who yells at you to stay off her lawn.

At least I have a cute kid. The cat irritates me, though.

  1. It's feast or famine - we only got on kid this year. We gave her 3 big candy bars and tried to give her more!

  2. I panicked when I saw literally dozens of kids approaching. I had about 6 candies left in the bowl--they were climbing the steps and I kept saying "I'm out of candy...sorry!" and still they kept coming...

I'm with you on the adults collecting for teeny kids.

  5. as a kid I loved Halloween, my children never liked it.
now I am thinking next year we need to go out to dinner or a movie Halloween night! I just find it annoying waiting for the door bell to ring!
buying all that candy that I don't want in the house!
WE didn't have that many kids this year so I will be donating this candy someplace !
Sorry you get so many and YES I hate when the kids that come are too old too.
maybe next year you can work on Halloween!

  6. Last year, I bought boxes of "Nerds" for the teenagers that came with pillowcases to collect. The preschoolers through 5th graders got the "fun-size Snickers". And what about the "fun-size Snickers?" If they were really fun-size, shouldn't they be quadruple the size? They should be called "Disappointingly Small-size Snickers."
