Mary and Eleonore, in my small group, have been making spliced log cabins--where you splice together the fabrics, pay no attention to keeping one side light and one side dark, and just keep sewing.
I like the subtle internal diagonals the splices give the quilt.
I used a basket full of plaid (of course) scraps and really like the results. My logs are cut 1 1/2 inches, finished blocks are 8 inches.
What a great quilt. Using only plaids has provided just the small amount of unity this quilt needs. I just love it and have to keep this idea in mind for a future project!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea for a quilt!
ReplyDeletedo you just sew the 1 1/2 inch strips together when they get to small to use in the log cabin or did you sew a whole bunch of strips together first?
I love the way the fabric does the talking in this quilt....the design becomes secondary.
LOVE IT!!!!!
I really love plaids and don't use them enough...this is a great way to do that.
thanks
Kathie
I was working with smaller scraps, so I sewed small ones together to make the larger length logs.
ReplyDeleteI love plaids too--if you click on the cowboy quilts label at the end of my post you will see more of my plaid quilts.
This is a wonderful quilt, Lynn!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Definately on my to do list!
ReplyDeleteBonnie
Enjoyed seeing all of your scrap quilts very much!
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous quilt. Great idea for using scraps.
ReplyDeleteanother gorgeous plaid quilt. I'd never have thought of joining on the diagonal, but that adds so much.
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever! Honestly, we sure get stuck on 'rules' and then someone like you comes along and wows us all with 'not rules.' This is similar to Log Cabin with Attitude, where there is no light or dark side. But the plaids is much better!
ReplyDeleteKewl beans and plaids, too!
ReplyDeleteI love the results! This is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for log cabins. I do love the block and the endless variations mean no two ever have to be the same!
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn, I love this idea and how it make things happen in the quilt. Will have to remember it! Hugs, Finn
