St Nikolaas Day

Yesterday morning the shoes were filled with chocolates--Seth (8) asked the question we have anticipated, "How come St Nikolaas only came to our house on the block?"
I said we are the only Dutch family on our street, and the other families celebrate their own traditions. Satisfied him for now--the older kids know that whoever questions openly gets only sticks in their shoes.

We celebrated St. Nicholas Day here in Austria. My little 2 1/2 year old guy was THRILLED with his little bag of treats - oranges, apple, nuts, chocolate covered raisins, etc. We went downtown and saw St. Nicholas arrive on a wagon drawn by 2 huge horses and when we got home we discovered he had paid a visit too. It was just too funny though - he was so THRILLED with his goodie bag - like he doesn't have oranges, nuts and apples just about every day for snacks anyway.

Cheers!
